Measuring water retention in undisturbed samples of stony soils

Stony soils have been increasingly used for agriculture production; however, little is known about their hydraulic properties due to problems, such as sample deformation and continuity between samples suction devices when the sampling measurements are accomplished with traditional techniques. In this study, ring technique was replaced by of undisturbed soil blocks coated paraffin wax preserve structure. A saturated paste fine-grained mineral particles ensure contact (sand table ceramic plates). This allowed us determine 30 water retention curves three stony coarse particle contents (> 2 mm) ranging from zero 69 %. The van Genuchten model fitted measured data root mean square errors were 0.0034 0.0331 m3 m–3, no outliers or odd behavior in curves. These results showed that consistent can be determined proposed.
